| The
gig at Sjunde Himlen, Borås (Sweden)
Audience: About 500
Length: 60 min
So it was time to once again head back to Sjunde Himlen (Heaven
no 7) in Beseech's and my own hometown Borås.
Last years total success with the releaseparty for Drama would
be hard to top and my own expectations were lower than last year.
It was easter saturday and that's not usually a day when a lot
of people go to concerts right, but hopefully there would be quite
a good crowd anyway.
I met up with the band while they were doing their soundcheck,
I got the opportunity to hear Outpost and Lost from the new album
before everyone elseand I'm very pleased with what I heard. I
had only heard bits and pieces of the songs in the studio before
but now I got to hear to entire songs performed live. And if this
is what the new album is going to sound like we're all in for
a real treat. I can hardly wait to get my hands on a copy of Sunless
Days.
Well, back to the evening at hand now. Beseech finished their
soundcheck by performing Lost, a beautiful ballad with only Lotta's
singing and Mikaels piano. Well, that's not enterily true actually,
Lotta was joined on stage by her friend Helena Lindhe who would
help out with the chorus on the song this evening.
When Beseech was done with their soundcheck it was time for former
Beseech guitarist Klas Bohlin's new band Depressive Art to do
theirs. These guys are really good so go check out their website
here>>.
For Beseech's part it was time to get ready for the gig and everyone
was scattered all over the place, I got the chance to join Mikael,
Lotta and Helena in Mikaels home where they got ready for the
gig. Thanks for the drink and sandwiches by the way Mikael. Actually
it was close that this report was never written, when we went
out to catch a cab to Sjunde Himlen again I almost got shot down
by some fireworks. It's a tradition here in sweden to shoot up
a lot of fireworks at easter and a bunch of punk ass kids had
decided to shoot their fireworks horizontally instead of verticaly.
Luckily I was able to pull a Matrix move and get out of the way
of the rocket coming right at me. But it was kind of fun actually,
I've never seen Lotta get as made as she did, those kids shure
got what was coming to them.
Well maybe you're not that interested in all of this but it was
a memorable moment :)
At 9 pm Depressive Art hit the stage and performed their set.
It was nice to see Klas back on stage, I haven't seen him on stage
since he decided to leave Beseech. I really like their music,
you should definately check them out. As you all know Klas is
a great songwriter and that hasn't changed in this band. They
made a great performance although a bit short in my opinion. I
would not have mind to see more of these guys on stage.
Before it was time for Beseech to enter the stage, Iodine Jupiter
made his appearance. This guy is a kind of poet I guess although
he was a bit too far out for my taste.
Between Iodine Jupiter and Beseech there was a break so I met
up with some old friends of mine, some of the guys from Why
Not MC in Vetlanda (read that gigreport) and of course Ulf
"Buffy" Classon who started this fanclub together with
me. In anyway right before the gig we recorded a greeting from
Beseech to all of the fans around the world, you can check it
out right now in the news section.
At 11:15 på it was finally time for Beseech to enter the
stage, almost everyone of the about 500 people that was there
joined up infront of the stage. It's really amazin how proffessional
Beseech has become, they haven't performed live since september
30:th last year but you really don't notice that. Everything sounds
great from starting Souls Higway all the way to finishing Drama.
New, or he isn't that new anymore but anyway Manne has really
found his position well in the band and he sure makes a big difference
to the sound when Beseech are performing live. It's fun to see
how well the band works together on stage and Lotta and Erik really
works great up front. They had put together a nice mix of old
and new songs this evening and two brand new songs from the upcoming
album Sunless Days. Lost is a very beautiful slow song with only
piano and Lottas voice, Outpost is really something that could
become a hit, heavy and it has a great refrain. It's just too
bad that the new album won't be out until after the summer. Other
than those Gimme Gimme and Between the lines are always a crowd
pleaser and Manmade Dreams...well we all know what that song does
to an audience :)
After the gig we could all focus on the party instead and what
a party it was. I haven't had that much fun for a long time. And
it continued all the way to the break of dawn. So I went back
home a happy man.
I almost forgot to mention, Beseech really do have some seriously
dedicated fans, we met three of them who had come all the way
from Holland just to see Beseech perform this evening. That's
what I call a true fan.
Well, 'til next time, take care.
