The last Beseech gig ever, at Trädgårn, Borås (Sweden)

Audience: About 300 (Packed)
Length: 65 min

Well, so it was that time unfortunately. The time for the last Beseech gig ever was upon us. It was with mixed emotions I woke up this day, sad because it would be the last time ever that I'd be able to see Beseech perform live but at the same time also very excited beacuse this would probably be a very good gig. Me and Lotta drove together to Borås from Gothenburg (there are worse ways to start the day) to meet up with the rest of the guys in the band.
When we got to Trädgårn Jonas was the only one who had arrived and was almost finished setting up his drums on the very small stage of Trädgårn. There were some concerns on whether or not everyone would actually fit on stage at the same time, but Beseech has performed on this stage before so it all worked out fine although there's not much room for any bigger poses or headbanging. I think this time everything worked smoother than ever before when I've been with the band, there were just no problems at all, and there usually always something that doesn't work or something like that, but this time it worked really great. By 6 o'clock the soundcheck was done both with Beseech with the current setting and with the former members that were invited as guest artists this evening. Former singer Jörgen Sjöberg, bassplayer Andreas Wiik, drummer Nicklas Svensson and guitarist Klas Bohlin were all there to make this a very special evening for all of us that were lucky enough to be there. More about that later on...

After the soundcheck it was time for the usual waiting that's always connected to a gig. But it was really fun this time since there were a lot of memories shared from Beseech's almost 15 years, some of the stories will never be public I can tell you that, but a lot of fun stuff has happened over the years with this band.

The place opened at 9 o'clock and there was actually a line outside by then so the place filled up rather quickly and Mikael and Lotta who manned the merchandise table were pretty busy there for a while. The first hour it was only the first floor that was open so it was pretty crowded. It was so much fun to meet old and new fans and most of all to meet fans from other countries than Sweden. For those of you who visit the Beseech forum you're most probably familiar with Umbrella and Velvet Erotica, two dedicated fans from Germany who made the trip to Borås for the last gig. I also talked to a fan from England, who I unfortunetaly have forgotten the name on, I have to apologise for that. All credits to him for travelling from England to see the gig and most of all for showing up wearing a kilt. Thanks again for the beer... I also met our really good friends from Inkslinger MC (previuosly known as Why Not MC) from Vetlanda here in Sweden. It's always a pleasure to meet them. I still haven't gotten over that damned cat (see the gigreport from the gig there if you're wondering what I'm talking about).

I spoke to a lot of fans during the night and I guess we can all agree that everyone was very sad to see Beseech split up and many times I heard the question; Is this really it? Is this the last gig ever for Beseech? And yes, unfortunately it is. It is the bitter truth. There will be no more of this great band in the future. But maybe we'll be able to enjoy new music from some of the members in new constellations, let's all keep our fingers crossed for that anyway. Well, on to the night at hand again now. Time passed very quickly from when the palce opened until it was time for the band to go on stage, and for once they actually got on stage on time, no delays at all. I actually barely made it up there in time since there were a lot of people getting up the stairs at the same time as me. But it felt so damned good to get up there, you could feel the tension and the expactation in the air, the crowd going nuts allready. At 23.15 Beseech entered the stage and were met by an extatic crowd. I don't think I've ever heard opening "Fiction City" getting a welcome like that ever before. You could really see that all band members were really enjoying themselves, I think they all had a big smile on their faces that didn't really leave during the entire show. They sure did get a lot of appreceation from the crowd in front of them. There was a really good mix of songs from all 5 albums although we only got the ending of "Rainbowman" from the album "...from a bleeding heart". During "Velvet Erotica" Beseech were joined on stage by former guitarist Klas Bohlin and after that Jörgen, Nicklas and Andreas got on stage to perform "Manmade Dreams". Jörgen really has got some power in his voice although he hasn't actually sung since he quit the band 5 years ago.

I don't think I've ever heard a Beseech crowd sing as hard as this one did. It was truly amazing to hear it and see them jump up and down and just sing their lungs out. Damned this was a fantastic gig and the band really did enjoy it, they looked so happy and relaxed on stage and it sounded just awesome. Too bad it was the last time, but at least we did get a really good last performance by the band. This gig will remain in my head for a long time, I wish all of you could have been there to enjoy it with those of us who were there. The members seemed to bit a bit touched by the moment as well, I saw a tear in Mannes's eye at the end of the gig (he'll kill me for writing that), but they all had really strong feelings about this, the last gig ever.

So this is it, the end of the last gigreport ever, it has been a pleasure writing them, I hope you have all enjoyed them as well. Maybe I'll be back writing gigreports for some other project involving Beseech mebers sometime in the future. Who knows..........???
